Sunday was a day of hairspray, makeup and sequins as I prepared for the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards in Glasgow. As you may remember, I was shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Beauty Blogger category. As soon as I found out I knew I wanted to attend the event. Not because I thought I was going to win, far from it. I wanted to go because Lipstick and Loathing was born a mere 9 months ago, and to be shortlisted for an award at this stage is a huge achievement, and one that I’m very proud of.
Anyway, before I start sounding like an X Factor contestant, let me give you a run down of my day, and more importantly, what I wore. I had never been to an event like this and I knew it was my chance to make a good impression and a great excuse to get glam!
I love doing my hair and makeup, but for big events like this nerves often get the better of me and I end up looking like an extra from the Rocky Horror Show! So, with that in mind, I decided I would book the professionals. With it being a Sunday, I was worried that there wouldn’t be anyone available. However, I got in touch with Sarah McSharry of Sarah Lou Beauty and Jennifer Fairley of MUArtistry by Jen. These two ladies are highly recommended. My hair didn’t move an inch and was so comfortable. My makeup stayed flawless throughout the night and never needed touched up.
My hair and makeup was done by around 4.30pm so I decided to have a cheeky glass of wine and lay out my dress and jewellery. Here is what I wore:
My beautiful, very glam dress was something that I got almost last minute. I had looked at this dress by Adriana Papell ages ago and decided I would wait a while. Eventually, I ventured to House of Fraser and made a bee line for this gorgeous number. I tried it on and fell in love. It’s so flattering and very, very comfortable.
Shoes… aren’t these amazing? They belong to my very cool Mum who kindly loaned them to me for the evening. The Melissa Lady Dragon Cluster shoe is a classic shape and they are incredibly comfortable. Not your usual high heel, oh no! These are not only easy on the eye, but on the nose too. Yep, they smell like bubble gum and it is yummy! No smelly feet here!
I had a loan of a very cool bag from my bestie, Isabel but as it was super expensive, and very dear to her heart, I decided that buying myself something would be the safer option. This metallic clutch with a chain strap from Accessorize is very elegant, and certainly looks more expensive than its’ price tag would suggest. A good addition to my evening bag collection that will definitely be used again.
My cute little front-to-back earrings are from Next. These are very elegant but would also look great with a casual wooly jumper and a pair of jeans. A great little all rounder, and very on trend this season. Plus they added a bit more bling to my outfit, and who doesn’t love bling?
Lastly, the big one! My mask! So pretty and very classy with a mega cheap price tag. Tam Shepherds Fancy Dress in Glasgow stocks a vast array of weird and wonderful things. Masks are a plenty and with every colour, size and material imaginable; it’s like Aladdin’s Cave.
I had my hair put up with a braid running down one side, which is pretty similar to my wedding hair actually. This style was a bit more relaxed though and went perfectly with my choice of outfit., a huge thanks to Sarah. I wanted to go for a red lip to finish off my look with a slight smoky eye. Jen nailed it and I loved my makeup.
Dressed and ready to party, my husband and I were picked up in a very cool silver Mercedes and taken to the Marriot hotel in Glasgow where the event was being held. As it was quite a warm day, I was glad of the air conditioning on the journey! Thanks to my amazing Mum for arranging this!
I met up with fellow blogger, and winner, Andrew from Beauty and the Boy before heading into the main hall. Dinner and wine was on the cards before Denise van Outen and Josie Smith took to the stage to announce the winners.
Seeing my blog up on the big screen for all to see felt like a very proud moment. I had a great evening and met some lovely people! A massive shout out to Joanne Reid of SalonNV who hosted an amazing show. Fun, laughs and glamour were the words of the night.
Congratulation to all the SHABA15 winners!
Until next time…
