The weather is improving, drinks are flowing and the music is booming as we set up the barbeque in the back garden, that can only mean one thing… festival season is almost upon us! With days spent in a muddy field, nights spent with little sleep and washing areas that are a no go zone after day one… let’s take a look at my festival skin and hair survival guide!
Everything about the festival beauty regime needs to be quick and convenient. We don’t want to spend valuable time washing and styling hair so by using a salt spray, you can let hair dry naturally after washing and be left with a wavy, festival perfect, messy look. Or if you decide not to wash your hair, use this to lift your hair at the roots to create volume and texture. The Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray is the most popular salt spray because it does what it says on the tin!
Tousle hair, make it look effortless and then add a festival must have head band like these from Topshop
Another festival must have for hair is good ol’ dry shampoo. Now, this is where opinion may be divided. I, personally, am a big fan of Colab dry shampoo. I feel it is less chalky, doesn’t leave that white/grey residue and the different scents are all amazing! Not only that but you can now get the Colab mega volume dry shampoo which will lift hair at the roots as well as making it look fresh and clean! Amazing! This little 50ml size is the perfect festival size.
There is one key piece of skincare that is an absolute must for your festival weekend. Sun cream! Don’t go looking like skimmed milk and come back strawberry flavoured! It is not only painful, but it is so bad for your skin.
The Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration in SPF 30 will not only protect your skin from the rays, it will also moisturise your skin for 12 hours leaving it looking smooth and silky. The smell of this sun tan lotion is also great! Think coconut and cocktails!
Festival makeup is minimal but fun. It’s a chance to be a bit daring. For you that might be wearing no makeup at all, or maybe it’s adding face jewels or trying some coloured mascara.
By using a CC cream on your face, you are more likely to get an even, healthy looking coverage which will last all day.
The Clinique CC cream will correct areas of the skin that are red, ashy or dull and even it out so that you look healthy and fresh faced. Perfect for after a night spent dancing with new friends instead of sleeping! Who needs sleep, CC cream will cheat the well slept look! 😉
When considering your festival makeup, it is important to pick products that will last throughout the whole day. The last thing you want is to be carrying your entire makeup bag around with you for constant touch ups. Instead, pick long lasting products so that you only need to take small things like a lip gloss in your bag. You want to enjoy the music and drinks, not be stressing about slipping foundation or running eyeliner!
The Rimmel London Exaggerate Liquid Eye Liner comes in a waterproof version and will last much longer then a kohl pencil. Being waterproof also means that if you get caught in that inevitable rain shower, you’re less likely to end up looking like a panda! Cat eyes, wings, minimal…the choice is yours and they are also possible with this liner.
Lastly lips… I recently bought a Maybelline Color Drama kohl lip pencil in shade 210 ‘Keep it Classy’. I wore it to a night out a few weeks ago and I literally never had to reapply despite drinking lots of Prosecco! The colour payoff is amazing, it isn’t drying on the lips like some pencils can be and, it lasts and lasts and lasts. Spot on for an all day festival look! Let’s be honest, it is undeniable that there will be plenty of drinks passing your lips!
I thought I’d finish off with some great inspirational looks form Coachella! I refreshed my social media and looked in utter envy at what looked to be an amazing few days! Beyoncé, Kendall and Kylie Jenner and the naturally gorgeous Gigi Hadid all looked festival perfect!
